Dual Diagnosis Group

Held on Wednesday
Time: 11:00 - 12:30 pm
Duration: ongoing

Description: A dual diagnosis group has started at Chabad Project Pride which addresses the issue of both the substance abuse and mental illness. This group is run by social worker, Donna Cohen, who has had 30 years experience working in the field of addictions and mental health at the Montreal General Hospital. The format of the group involves members discussing concerns about their psychiatric medications, how to live with a dual disorder, and learning new ways of coping. Often these clients do not always get their needs met at 12 step groups, which do not understand the devestating effects of having a severe mental illness. These clients must take their medications to avoid a mental illness relapse, which differs from self-medicating with drugs and alcohol.
